Aprilia’s Austin Conquest: Bezzecchi’s Record-Breaking Sunday
The Circuit of the Americas (COTA) is known for being physically punishing, but the 2026 edition proved that even missing parts can’t stop a rider in the “zone.”
1. Bezzecchi’s Five-in-a-Row
Marco Bezzecchi made history on Sunday, becoming the first rider in 12 years to win the opening three rounds of a season. More impressively, it was his fifth consecutive Grand Prix victory dating back to late 2025. Despite a Lap 1 collision with Pedro Acosta that ripped a significant piece of carbon fiber off his tail unit, Bezzecchi led every single lap—breaking Jorge Lorenzo’s 2015 record for most consecutive laps led in the modern era (now 121 laps).
2. The Aprilia Era?
The “Noale Factory” is officially the force to be reckoned with. Jorge Martin secured his first victory in Aprilia colors during Saturday’s Sprint, and followed it up with a P2 on Sunday. With Aprilia riders currently sitting 1st and 2nd in the championship, the power dynamic in the paddock has shifted away from Bologna.
3. Acosta’s Rookie Brilliance Continues
KTM’s Pedro Acosta remains the most exciting prospect on the grid. After losing a Sprint podium due to a tire pressure infraction, he bounced back on Sunday to finish P3. His aggressive style was on full display as he “bashed fairings” with Bezzecchi at Turn 11, proving he isn’t intimidated by the veterans.
4. Marquez’s Long-Lap Recovery
The “King of COTA,” Marc Marquez, had a difficult weekend. A collision with Fabio Di Giannantonio in the Sprint resulted in a Long-Lap Penalty for Sunday’s main race. Dropping to 11th early on, he clawed his way back to P5, winning a late-race dogfight against his brother Alex and a struggling Francesco Bagnaia.
The “Garage Corner” Connection
- Aerodynamics & Impact: Bezzecchi winning with a broken tail unit was incredible, but for street riders, damaged fairings mean lost stability and safety. If your bike has taken a knock, check out our latest OEM-spec and carbon fiber replacement panels to restore your bike’s aero.
- Collision Protection: The Acosta/Bezzecchi clash highlighted how vulnerable engine cases and fairings are during impact. We recommend installing heavy-duty frame sliders and engine case covers before your next track day.
- Aprilia Performance: With the RS-GP26 dominating the standings, interest in Italian performance is at an all-time high. We’ve just restocked STM Italy dry clutch components and DBK special parts specifically for the latest Aprilia and Ducati models.
